imagine that many of us have a preset idea about the profile of women having abortions in our country. I had it. But in the midst of controversy over changing the law on abortion - a tremendous understatement! - I happened to read a report published by the Ministry of Health displayed the statistics of abortion in Spain. Some are very significant, at least to remove my apriorism about this issue.
Around 63 percent of women who abort are employed or receiving a pension. More than 50 percent of those who had abortions in 2008 have at least one child. Banter has the details under the heading: "Number of children living today." Maybe it's because 33 percent had aborted before, some five or more times, was 0.70 percent. No education 3 percent, while the university reached 14 percent. 24 percent are married, while only 13 percent report no partner.
88 percent of abortions are performed before 13 weeks of pregnancy. While there was a 12 percent occurred after 13 weeks appears to be the scientific frontier of mankind. Translated into numbers about 14,000 fetuses were killed when, according to the Minister for Equal da , as were human beings. 97 percent of abortions are performed to "preserve the health of the mother."
Nearly 90 percent were performed in private hospitals. Some 45 percent of which were aborted English nationality. In 10 years, Spain has gone from 6.52 abortions per 1,000 women in 11.78. Since Zapatero governs has increased by 36 percent the number of abortions, from 85,000 to 116,000.
These data may not mean anything. To me say a lot. I am a supporter of abortion. Since reading the book Freakonomics convinced me that it is better for society that certain individuals have no children. However, I believe that abortion is an extreme decision for a woman or a couple. To take that decision probably weigh strongly economic arguments and not be bound to think that a woman has a child and then give it up for adoption simply because they can not keep.
In light of the data, I fear that abortion has become a kind of birth control since it is clear that in Spain, practice is free. So I can not believe this shameful excuse dropped from the Government stating that the law seeks to prevent a woman or a doctor can be jailed for an abortion. Among other things, because that never happened. But even more pathetic is the attitude of the Socialist Youth not blush when they say that This law aims to have "zero abortions." "They would eliminate the use of marijuana if it were decriminalized?.
If you really want to reduce the number of abortions you have to do is to counsel women, or couples, who have to make that decision. Counseling and perhaps financially, but never industrialize abortion as the trend seems to be that the law wants to consolidate.
